When is cheap cleaning not cheap cleaning?

The contract cleaning industry is not dominated by a few large firms, but rather it is made up of a large number of small and medium sized firms..... and this means there are a few firms out there that, through not complying with legislation, cut corners and offer very low prices for cleaning. And Kent is no exception... there are good and bad companies operating in Kent.

So... if you get a quote for cleaning that comes in a lot below all the others, it is worth asking that company to see:
1) Their health and safety policy esp in relation to CoSHH guidelines
2) What training they give to their staff
3) What checks they do on their staff eg it is a legal requirement at a minimum to follow Home Office rules on identity verification
4) Proof they have employers liability insurance - this is a legal requirement

If they cant address the above points, you should seriously consider if you want to do business with such a company, cheap though they may be....

Does cleaning matter?

...OK so does it really matter if a building is not cleaned well? The answer is YES! There are two min types of people that come into commercial buildings - staff and visitors. High quality cleaning services are vital for staff morale and a clean building is vital in order to project a professional image to visitors - be they current clients, potential clients or indeed suppliers...

How to choose a commercial cleaning supplier

OK..... so what should you look for when choosing a commercial cleaning supplier? Well, here's our view - and although we come from Kent, this advice of course applies to any commercial cleaning company...

1) Ask them for an example of a detailed cleaning schedule from another client - if they hesitate, this is a bad sign!

2) Ask them if they can guarantee to provide cover for cleaner sickness or holiday. The answer should be "yes" rather than "we try our best"!

3) Ask them if they use temp agencies.... the answer should be know!

4) Try to meet the owner and assess him or her. If he or she wont meet with you, this is a bad sign! If you choose a company where the owner is involved with the day to day running of the business, they are more likely to care about providing good service....

5) ...Just to add to 4) above, if your cleaning requirements are large ie lots of hours per week, although you should choose a firm where you can meet the owner, make sure they are not so small a firm that they cannot handle larger contracts...
